Précédent Suivant Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret The museum was opened in 1928 in the Kotschoubey-Thomson villa, an example of 19th century neo-classical architecture. Its collections cover six centuries of history. The Villa des Baumettes was transformed into the Fine Art Museum Jules Chéret in 1928. It testifies to the cosmopolitism and eclecticism of the Nice holiday resort. The villa was built from 1878 by Elisabeth Kotschoubey, wife of a private adviser to Tsar Alexander II. In 1883, it was bought by an American entomologist, James Thomson, and his wife. The architect Constantin Scala made transformations between 1883 and 1887 to give the villa its present Italian neo-renaissance appearance. The interior had a great ornamentation in faux-marble and paintings with mythological themes, which disappeared at the opening of the museum but are the subject of a restoration project. The museum exhibits works from French museum deposits and donations from Nice notables and winter residents attached to the region. Read More Text...
